The school focuses on teaching and learning of Thirumurai in their respective Pann (Raaga). Thirumurai comprises of 12 compilation. For decades, Thirumurai, or commonly known as Thevaram and Thiruvasagam, have been taught as a religious class in most organisations, as these devotional hymns are sung by the Saiva Saints to praise the glory of Lord Shiva. Though, these songs are rich compositions in Pann system, none of the schools emphasised on musical training for Thirumurai.
However, Pannisai Paadasaalai took the new approach in Teaching Thirumurai based on Pann system. Pann is the ancient Tamil musical system which is known as raaga in the current classical music. Among the 12 Thirumurai, Thevaram is given the utmost importance as they cover 7 Thirumurai and these Thevaram hymns composed in a prefixed Pann. Hence, Thevaram is the main medium in introducing and teaching Pann(s).
